01 Dec ONLINE PAYMENT IN AFRICA: UGANDA AUTHORITY NOW ACCEPTING MTN MOBILE MONEY

Uganda epayments has been given a boost with the acceptance of MTN Mobile Money for the Kampala City Authority (KCCA) to make it easier for consumers to pay their local authority bills online.  MTN Uganda has more than 11 million subscribers who are in a position to use MTN Mobile Money as an online payment method in Uganda.

Ugandan consumers and SME’s can pay the Kampala Authority online from anywhere using MTN Mobile Money as their payment method.

With credit card issuance at a minimum in Uganda, online payment is by way of mobile money alternative payment methods by MTN, Airtel and Uganda Telecom.

Mobile Money is the alternative to bank payments.  Traditional banking is behind the curve in Uganda which has made it attractive for Telecoms and Consumers to use mobile money as a form of payment online.

According to African Payment Solutions, mobile money as a form of payment is a key component required for multinational eCommerce companies expanding sale of their goods and services to African countries like Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.

There is still a significant improvement required of network continuous availability and fraud management which is retarding uptake of Mobile Money for multinational eCommerce companies wanting to sell to, and get paid online by, Uganda consumers for eCommerce goods and services.
