18 Feb Overview of Airtel Mobile Money for Online Payment Across Africa
Airtel Money is owned by Bharti Airtel Limited (Africa’s second largest mobile operator), and provides telecoms and mobile payment service in 14 countries in East, Central, and West Africa. Countries include Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Niger, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Seychelles. Using Airtel Money, 14m of their 100m African mobile consumers, can pay for goods and services using their mobile money account. Airtel has chosen their 14 countries based on their strong GDP growth potential, young and fast-growing populations, low customer and data penetration and inadequate banking infrastructure. Airtel alongside MTN and GT Bank are the biggest financial and payments players in Nigeria. Thinking about our eCommerce merchants and the role Airtel Money could play, here are some high levels on active mobile money accounts for online payment in key African territories: Kenya 3m, Tanzania 5m, Zambia 3m, Ghana 5m, Uganda 4m, Rwanda 2m (Please note that these stats are indicative only, from our experience, and to be used from a strategic and not scientific perspective). ================= Our thanks for inspiration to: "Airtel Africa || Home." https://airtel.africa/.
