06 Mar Revolutionary Mobile Payment Technology That Could Transform The African Payments Landscape With Easy Use Of Digital Currencies

Samsung’s new S20 range of smartphones have a built in non-custodial crypto wallet for storing digital currencies securely, having launched the technology last year.

The app on the phone makes it easy for consumers to load and securely manage and use a range of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin and Ethereum.  Users will have control over their private keys.

These new phones will make it so easy for Africans to buy, store and pay with digital currency.  Combined with Samsung's payment technology this could be a big step forward for digital currency adoption across Africa.

The phones are still a bit pricey for the African market, coming in at around $1,000.  Other blockchain enabled and secure digital currency storing phones are coming out from HTC, Siri , PundiX, Electroneum, Huobi.  It looks like Apple has also done a deal with Phoenix which is a revolutionary user friendly lightning wallet that could be used to store and pay for goods and services on a smartphone.

The competition in this space is sure to bring down the prices of digital currency capable smartphones bringing them within reach of the African consumer.  Imagine a world where populations have crypto enabled phones with which they can load and store digital currency, accept and pay online with it, and remit and transfer their digital currencies cross border at minimal cost.
